It was an incredible four days at the One Nevada Youth Prevention Summer Camp. We were honored to work with many community groups from across the Silver State with the shared goal keeping Nevada’s youth happy and healthy.

Hosted by Partnership Carson City at the 4-H Camp in Lake Tahoe, the venue provided the perfect environment for young people to get their dose of summer fun and learn some important lessons too.

Guest speakers included two-time Olympic gold medalist, David Wise. David spent a good portion of his day talking to youth about the “valleys and peaks” in his own life and skiing career that ultimately shaped him into the person he is today. David and his wife, Alexandra, stayed at camp until well after dark making s’mores and taking selfies with eager youth.

Campers were able to choose what classes they attended, allowing them to shape their own camp experience. Many topics were offered, including marijuana education, suicide prevention, social media use, opioid education, and meditation.

Almost every corner of Nevada was represented with staff from Churchill Community Coalition, Healthy Communities Coalition, Join Together Northern Nevada, Mission High School, Nye Community Coalition, The PACT Coalition, and Partnership Carson City.

“Anytime you get a group like this with the same goal, great things are going to happen” said Partnership Douglas County Youth Coordinator, Jamie Eyerly. “It has been awesome working with youth coordinators from across the state to gain perspective on the issues impacting the more urban or rural parts of the state”.

During their free time at camp, youth had the option of playing sports, doing crafts, kayaking, and taking in the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe from the camp’s private beach.
