Prescription drug roundups have been cancelled but you can still safely dispose of your unused, unwanted, or expired medication from the comfort of your own home. Our office is offering two convenient drug disposal systems, Deterra and Dispose Rx , you can use at home to deactivate medications and help prevent drug misuse while protecting the environment.
Deterra is a pouch that you can place you medication in, fill with warm water, seal, and throw away. Deterra permanently destroys opioids, prescription and over the counter medications.
Dispose Rx is a powder that can be added into a medicine container and mixed with water. Dispose Rx can be used to deactivate pills, tablets, capsules, liquids and powders. The container can then throw away in the household trash.
If you have unwanted medications you would like to get rid of, call our office at (775) 782-8611 from 9:00am to 3:00 pm Monday through Thursday to set-up a time to pick up a disposal kit from out front of our office. If you aren’t able to stop by, let us know and we can mail smaller packets to you. Tell us how much you are looking to dispose of and we will help pick out the right disposal kit for you.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), two-thirds of teens who misused pain relievers in the past year say they got them from family and friends, including their home’s medicine cabinets. By properly storing and disposing of medication, you can lower the chance of a teen you know developing a substance abuse disorder or experiencing an overdose.
