As we approach the holiday season, we expect gatherings and parties with friends and family which opens up access to alcohol and potentially influences drinking behaviors.

Set your teens up for success:

  • Don’t confuse or shift boundaries on alcohol or drug consumption during the holidays.
  • Talk to your teen about alcohol and drug use and discuss the behaviors you expect from them over the holiday season.
  • Provide supervision at family gatherings and neighborhood parties. Offer alternative activities that does not involve alcohol.
  • Set up a “bailout” plan for your teen if he or she may find themselves in a situation where they or the designated driver is no longer in a condition to drive safely. It’s important that he or she feel safe enough to call you or a trusted adult.
